Bandai's 1/100 Tieren Ground Type ~ In-box preview
The year is 2307 A.D., and Earth's fossil
fuels have been depleted. Humanity has obtained a new source of energy
in the form of a large-scale solar power generation system, based on
three huge orbital elevators. However, the benefits of this system are
available only to a handful of major powers and their allies: the Union,
led by the United States of America; the Human Reform League, led by
China, Russia, and India; and the AEU, led by Europe.
These superpower blocs continue to play a grand zero-sum game for the
sake of their own prestige and prosperity. Thus, even in the 24th
Century, humanity has yet to come together as one.
In this world of never-ending conflict, a private armed organization
appears, dedicated to the elimination of war through armed force. Its
name is Celestial Being, and it is in possession of "Gundam" mobile
suits. With these Gundams, it begins armed intervention into all acts of
war.).
Box Art

The mainstay mobile suit of the Human
Reform League, comparable in design to a bipedal tank, the Tieren is a
relatively old model that has been in service for more than a decade.
The Ground-Type Tieren is equipped with a 550mm missile launcher, a 200
x 25 mm smooth-bore cannon, a 30mm chest-mounted machine gun, a carbon
blade for melee combat, and a leg-mounted shield that protects its lower
body from enemy fire. Its mobility is limited by its weight and bulk,
however, it is heavily armed and armored, and its technology is highly
reliable.
The term Tieren means "iron man" in Chinese.

This kit is a highly detailed model of the
Human Reform League's Tieren Ground Type, with accurate mechanical
detailing, full poseability, and well and is well-equipped with weapons
that include a bazooka, a carbon blade, and a 200 x 25mm smooth-bore
cannon.
Its mono eye can move horizontally and vertically, and its shoulder
shields are flexible. It also includes three in-scale unpainted figures
(one pilot and two HRL soldiers).
At ¥1,400, this kit is a steal. The box comes full of parts, the detail
is awesome (for a non-MG kit), and it builds to a nice model of the
HRL's fugly workhorse.
Scale: 1/100
Manufacturer: Bandai
What you get: 151 styrene parts, 2 polycap sprues, instructions,
stickers sheet
Price: on sale for ¥1,400 (about $14.86), normally ¥2,800, plus overseas
shipping from HLJ.com.
Molding Quality: typical of Bandai models, no flash with crisp
detail and excellent parts fit
Detail: nice detail for a good build of the subject
Accuracy: looks dead-on to the animated version
Pros: price, scale, excellent parts fit & detail, unique model
subject
Cons: none, except that it's only available (so far) from overseas
hobby stores
Final comments: This thing's so ugly that it's cool.
A
friend who has the Tieren in action believes that this is what tanks
might look like in the future... ugly but functional, armed to the
teeth, and big enough to scare the hell out of the enemy. Highly recommended
for all mecha fans.
